中でも面白かったのは、北斎が描いた、大きな蛸が複数の触手を使って裸の女性を犯している絵で、これはピカソだけでなく、当時の様々な画家に影響を与えたらしい。

北斎は全く狙ってなかったと思うが、蛸はキリスト教文化では、背徳の象徴。 その蛸が女性を犯す、という発想は、デカダンス全盛の当時の画家たちにはもうドンピシャだったことだろう。

北斎の絵は極めて日本的な絵だが、複数の画家がこれを西洋的なエロスに転換していて、それがいくつか展示されていた。 西洋のポルノ文化に慣れてる現代の日本人からみると、正直春画より西洋版の肉々しいほうがエロく思える。 が、元のアイディアは日本にあるわけだ。
