書き言葉であれ話し言葉であれ、言葉や言語といったものは私の思考のメカニズムにおいてはなんら役割をもっていないようだ。思考の要素として役に立ちそうな心的実体は、いくつかの記号と、「おのずと」増殖し、たがいに結びついていく明確なイメージである。もちろん、そうした要素と適切な理論的概念との間にはある結びつきがある。もう一つ明らかなことは、最終的に論理的概念にたどりつきたいという欲求が、前述のごとき要素をともなった、このかなり漠とした作用の感情的な基盤になっているということだ。
